Why are E-Cycles so good?

Power-assisted cycles (also known as electric bikes, ebikes or e-cycles) can be pedalled in the same way as a standard push bike but, at the flick of a switch, you can engage the electric motor to give you a bit of a boost if you come to a hill, hit a headwind or simply get a bit tired! They are ideal for commuting, shopping or exploring the countryside.

Electric bikes can be ridden by anybody over the age of 14 and without insurance, do not require road tax and can, as standard bikes, be parked for free. Ebikes are very environmentally friendly producing zero emissions – of course some CO2 is created when the batteries are charged from a standard electrical socket, though only a very small amount of electricity is needed to fully charge a battery – it costs the average e-cyclist less than a fiver to charge their bike per year! As a rough guide one full charge gives between 10 and 30 miles of non-pedalling, and will cost around 10p.

The distance an ebike can travel with being pedalled (pedal assisted) is between 20 and 60 miles dependent, of course, on the bike model, motor and battery size. They will allow you to maintain a speed if 15mph without too much effort ensuring that you arrive at your destination more relaxed and ready to seize the day! Different ebikes offer slightly different ways of delivering the power, some use a traditional throttle mounted on the handlebars while others use a switch or button that sets the level of assistance required. Whichever method you choose we believe once you've tried an ebike you will not look back.
