Public Charging Points

As yet there aren’t that many charging points in the UK, but don’t worry electric bike batteries are designed to be removed from the bike’s frame so they can be charged at home or at the workplace. Some electric scooters – such as the brand new E-Max City also have detachable batteries making them viable for people who live in flats.

London leads the way in offering on-street or public car park charging points – there are 12 on-street and 48 car park charging points in the City of Westminster alone. But things are getting better! The Energy Technologies Institute’s £11 million Joint-Cities Plan aims to help roll-out a national network of charging points – Birmingham, Coventry, Glasgow, London, Middlesborough, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Oxford and Sunderland will be the first to benefit – the plan is to go nationwide.

In July 2011 it was announced that Polar, a scheme suporting the Government’s Plugged-in Places (PiP) programme, will be rolled out to Swindon as well as Basingstoke, Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Exeter, Gloucester, Guildford, Newbury, Reading and Taunton.
